The U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has initiated a probe into nearly one million General Motors pickup trucks and SUVs. The investigation, covering 997,743 vehicles from model years 2021-2026, centers on concerns related to engine failure, specifically in models equipped with GM's L87 engines, including the Cadillac Escalade, Chevrolet Silverado 1500, and GMC Yukon.
This new engineering analysis by the auto safety regulator comes after it received 499 complaints alleging engine failures despite the vehicles having undergone an earlier recall remedy. General Motors had issued a recall last year to address issues with the L87 engine, which the automaker attributed to a supplier.
The NHTSA's investigation will continue to examine post-recall engine failures and assess the effectiveness of the fixes implemented by GM.
