Melinda French Gates pledges $215 million for women's health

Melinda French Gates is continuing her philanthropic work by donating an additional $215 million to Pivotal, an organization she founded in 2015. This funding is dedicated to advancing women's reproductive and midlife health, including a focus on menopause care. This brings her total investment in women's health to $600 million over the last two years. French Gates emphasizes that investing in women's health is crucial for empowering women in society, stating that a woman cannot reach her full potential if her health is neglected. She highlighted that women's health has historically been underfunded and under-researched, with men's bodies often treated as the default in scientific studies. French Gates aims to address the lack of accurate information and provider training, particularly concerning perimenopause and menopause, by partnering with The Menopause Society to disseminate knowledge and improve care within medical residency programs and primary care settings. She also touched upon the challenges in reproductive and maternal health, noting that while knowledge exists for contraception, access has been attacked, and in maternal health, implementation and equitable treatment, especially for those on Medicaid, are systemic issues. French Gates firmly believes a woman's body belongs to her alone and that health decisions are private.
