Key facts
- SkyeChip will contribute specialized design and engineering capabilities to SAIMEMORY's Z-Angle Memory (ZAM) program.
- The ZAM technology aims to deliver higher memory capacity and bandwidth while reducing power consumption for AI workloads.
- SkyeChip has developed over 120 patent inventions filed in Malaysia, China, and the United States.
- SAIMEMORY targets prototype development for ZAM in its fiscal year ending March 2028 and commercialization in FY2029.
Malaysian semiconductor designer SkyeChip has joined a SoftBank-backed initiative in Japan to develop next-generation memory for artificial intelligence. The collaboration with SAIMEMORY Corp., a subsidiary of SoftBank, focuses on the Z-Angle Memory (ZAM) program, which aims to overcome the "memory wall" that can limit AI computing efficiency.
SkyeChip will leverage its expertise in high-performance memory interfaces and chip integration to support ZAM's development. The technology is designed to offer increased memory capacity and bandwidth while reducing power consumption, crucial for data centers supporting large-scale AI training and inference.
This engagement is part of a broader ecosystem that includes Intel, which partnered with SAIMEMORY in February 2026, and SHINKO Electric Industries. The ZAM program has also received support from Japan's NEDO initiative, with SAIMEMORY targeting prototype development by March 2028 and commercialization in FY2029.
