Japanese trading house Itochu is set to enter the data center development market, with plans to invest several hundred billion yen by 2030 to construct around 10 facilities across Japan. The strategy involves leasing these centers to U.S. tech giants and other companies before eventually selling them off. Itochu hopes to collaborate with JR East through a new joint venture for this initiative. The company's existing subsidiary, ITOCHU Techno-Solutions Corporation (CTC), operates a network of five data centers in Japan, certified to high security and reliability standards, and designed to withstand natural disasters, offering business continuity and disaster recovery solutions.
