Former Hong Kong police constable Jacky Chu Chun-kwok, who died on September 16, 2026, was laid to rest on October 22 with a highest-honour ceremonial funeral. Chu, 52, had been paralysed and bedridden for 21 years after being stabbed in the neck during a routine patrol on July 19, 2005. The attack, which caused severe brain damage, occurred when Chu stopped Liu Chi-yung for an identity check. Liu, who was carrying a knife and intended to rob pedestrians, stabbed Chu before fleeing. Despite his severe injuries, Chu pursued the attacker. Liu was later arrested and sentenced to 10 years in prison. The funeral service was held at the Universal Funeral Parlour in Hung Hom and attended by Chief Executive John Lee Ka-chiu and Secretary for Security Chris Tang Ping-keung. Burial took place on October 23 at Gallant Garden, a cemetery reserved for public servants who die in the line of duty. Chu was previously awarded a bravery medal for his actions.
