Hong Kong authorities have identified Taizoom Elevator as the sole contractor implicated in missing fire-resistant door frames across 338 buildings. The Electrical and Mechanical Services Department (EMSD) confirmed the issue on Thursday after surprise inspections at two estates revealed that while fire-resistant doors were installed, the corresponding door frame components were absent. This constitutes a serious construction defect, with preliminary evidence pointing to negligence or misconduct by Taizoom. The EMSD has instructed Taizoom to rectify the situation within a month, bearing all costs, and has referred the case to the police for potential criminal fraud and false statements. Inspections of other contractors' works have found no similar breaches so far.
