Grayscale announced on October 21 that its new in-kind investing service allows eligible investors to exchange cryptocurrencies directly for shares in 10 of its investment products. This service enables investors to maintain cryptocurrency exposure through traditional investment accounts without the direct custody responsibilities of holding the underlying tokens.
The 10 supported assets include Bitcoin, Ethereum, Solana, XRP, Dogecoin, Avalanche, Chainlink, Hyperliquid, Sui, and Zcash. Minimum investment requirements vary significantly, starting at approximately $80,300 for the Solana Staking ETF and reaching $364,800 for the Bitcoin Mini Trust. Investors must work through authorized participants or approved intermediaries to access the offering.
This expansion follows the Securities and Exchange Commission's July 2025 approval of in-kind creations and redemptions for cryptocurrency exchange-traded products. SEC Chairman Paul Atkins suggested this mechanism could reduce costs and increase efficiency for crypto investment products, though Grayscale cautioned that facilitator fees, market price differences, and potential tax obligations still apply.
