Key facts
- Lido now supports direct ETH staking on Arbitrum, Base, Linea, and Optimism.
- Chainlink CCIP handles cross-chain ETH transfers for the staking process.
- Users receive wrapped staked ETH (wstETH) on the originating L2 network.
- Staking rewards are split 90% for stakers and 10% for Lido.
- VanEck withdrew its proposed Lido staked Ethereum ETF on October 14.
Lido has launched direct ETH staking across Arbitrum, Base, Linea, and Optimism, leveraging Chainlink's Cross-Chain Interoperability Protocol (CCIP). This new feature eliminates the need for manual asset bridging, allowing users to stake ETH directly from these Layer-2 networks while maintaining staking operations on the Ethereum mainnet. Users deposit ETH through the Lido interface and receive wrapped staked ETH (wstETH) in return, which accrues staking rewards over time. Chainlink CCIP facilitates the transfer of ETH to the Ethereum mainnet for staking and returns the minted wstETH to the originating L2 network's liquidity pool. The integration follows VanEck's withdrawal of its proposed Lido staked Ethereum ETF on October 14.
