Galaxy Digital, led by Michael Novogratz, has announced plans to launch a $100 million Crypto Hedge Fund, signaling a continued push for institutional acceptance in the digital asset space. The fund is anticipated to debut in the first quarter of 2026 and will target a mix of family offices, affluent clients, and institutional investors.
The fund's strategy is designed to offer a balanced exposure to the cryptocurrency market. It will allocate up to 30% of its assets directly into cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin and Ethereum, alongside other selected tokens. The remaining 70% will be invested in equities of companies linked to the cryptocurrency ecosystem, including miners, exchanges, blockchain infrastructure firms, and financial service companies influenced by digital assets.
This approach aims to provide a more balanced risk profile compared to traditional crypto-only investments, especially as cryptocurrency ETFs and hybrid investment models gain traction. Galaxy Digital, founded in 2018, has grown into a significant player in the digital asset industry, managing $17 billion across trading, lending, asset management, and venture services.
The launch comes amid a growing trend of hedge funds increasing their exposure to digital assets. Globally, over 400 active crypto hedge funds manage an estimated $82 billion to $136 billion. Approximately 55% of traditional hedge funds currently hold some form of cryptocurrency and intend to increase these allocations.
Other major firms like BlackRock, Pantera Capital, Multicoin Capital, and BlockTower Capital have also introduced similar hybrid investment products that combine direct digital asset investment with equity or infrastructure stakes, focusing on institutional clients.
