The violence, described as an ambush by one resident, also resulted in the burning of 20 homes. The regional government has pledged to take action against those responsible, with a local official blaming a rebel coalition that includes the Oromo Liberation Army (OLA). The OLA has not commented but has denied previous allegations of similar attacks. Eyewitnesses reported that five children were among the victims.
