The bodies of four Salvadoran soldiers, believed to be those missing since an ambush by armed gangs in Haiti, have been found outside the capital, Port-au-Prince, the New York Times reported on Saturday. The remains were recovered on Saturday and were badly burned, requiring autopsies for confirmation. They were handed over to a Salvadoran military team at the international airport. The soldiers went missing on Sunday after their armored vehicle was attacked while returning from a market to their base. This was the first major attack on the Gang Suppression Force, a United Nations-authorized multinational mission, since it began operations in Haiti this year. President Nayib Bukele had stated on Wednesday that gangs were holding the men and El Salvador had launched an operation to retrieve them. Local media have linked the ambush to gangs such as Chen Mechan and 400 Mawozo.
