Elon Musk has publicly applauded Jeff Bezos for his substantial personal investment in Blue Origin, the Amazon founder's spaceflight company. Musk responded with "Bravo!" on X to a clip of Bezos stating he had personally invested $28 billion into the company since its founding in 2000. Musk added that he was "glad Jeff Bezos cares so much about space."
Bezos, who stepped down as Amazon CEO in 2021, also revealed that Blue Origin has recently raised more than $10 billion in its first external funding round. He explained that he waited to seek outside investors until he was confident it would be a good investment for them, and that he now sees the company's financial future with "some clarity."
While Bezos anticipates Blue Origin will eventually become a public company, he indicated that an initial public offering is still several years away. Despite a history of rivalry between Musk and Bezos, marked by disputes over launchpads, contracts, and talent, they have also expressed mutual admiration. Musk has previously suggested his public jabs at Bezos were intended to motivate him to work harder at Blue Origin.
