Management at the Russian-held Zaporizhzhia nuclear plant in southeastern Ukraine stated that a driver at the station was killed on Wednesday following two days of Ukrainian drone attacks. Russian forces seized the plant in the early weeks of the February 2022 invasion, and both sides have since accused each other of activities threatening nuclear safety.
The plant's managers reported on Telegram that staff transport buses had been targeted for two consecutive days, characterizing the strikes as deliberate and a direct threat to personnel ensuring plant operations. Russia's state nuclear corporation, Rosatom, previously reported that a Ukrainian drone attack in July resulted in the deaths of the plant's chief engineer and the vehicle's driver. The city of Enerhodar, where many plant staff reside, has also been a frequent target.
