Both figures represent a significant increase from August.
The month's losses were largely driven by two major incidents: a $388 million hack of Bitget and a $320 million exploit of the Liquid Network. However, reports indicated that more than $270 million of the funds stolen from the Liquid Network were subsequently returned.
These incidents rank among the largest crypto thefts recorded this year. Other notable hacks in September included Safe Wallet, which lost $7.8 million; DCENT, with losses of $6 million; and Duelbits, which lost $5.9 million.
CertiK's security dashboard indicates a total of 656 security incidents in 2026, leading to cumulative losses of $2.68 billion.
