China's service sector experienced a significant boost during the recent National Day holiday, with sales revenue jumping 19.5% year-on-year. This surge was primarily fueled by increased consumer spending on travel and entertainment.
Specific data from the State Taxation Administration revealed that tourism and entertainment sales climbed 23.6% compared to the previous year. Other service sectors also saw notable growth: restaurant services increased by 9%, cultural and arts services by 20.9%, and sports services by 29.4%.
The Ministry of Transport reported that during the October 1-7 holiday period, cross-regional passenger trips totaled 2.14 billion, averaging 306 million per day. This strong travel activity contributed to the robust consumption figures. Additionally, sales of home appliances and audio-visual equipment rose 40.1%, while sales of mobile phones and other communication devices saw an even larger increase of 119.8% year-on-year.
