China court gives former Shanxi governor suspended death sentence for corruption

According to the court statement from Henan province, Jin exploited his senior local posts across various Chinese cities and provinces from 2004 to 2025. During this period, he provided assistance to relevant organizations and individuals concerning business operations, project contracting, and job promotions.

Jin was placed under investigation by the country's anti-graft watchdog in April 2025. In China, a suspended death sentence grants the accused a two-year period before execution, after which it is typically commuted to life imprisonment. The court noted that Jin admitted guilt and expressed remorse during the proceedings. He has also been deprived of his political rights for life, and all of his personal property has been ordered confiscated.
