Canada to choose submarine program bidder within 30 days

Canada is nearing a decision on its significant submarine program, with a preferred bidder expected to be chosen within the next month. Secretary of State for Defence Procurement Stephen Fuhr indicated that this initiative could become the largest procurement in the country's history.

Fuhr stated that the selection of a preferred bidder would not be a final contract award but would initiate detailed negotiations. The competition is between Germany's TKMS, offering its Type 212CD, and South Korea's Hanwha Ocean with its KSS-III submarine. Canada seeks submarines capable of operating across its three oceans, particularly in the Arctic.

The rapid timeline reflects Ottawa's prioritization of the file, with Fuhr expressing confidence in meeting the 30-day target.
