Frequently asked questions

U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs are financial products that allow investors to gain exposure to Bitcoin's price movements without directly owning the cryptocurrency. The ETF issuer holds the Bitcoin, and investors own shares equivalent to the asset.

Large inflows suggest increased investor confidence and demand for Bitcoin, potentially driving up its price. They also reflect the growing acceptance of crypto as an asset class within traditional finance.

BlackRock's IBIT fund capturing a large majority of inflows highlights its strong market position and investor preference for its product, potentially influencing market dynamics and competition among ETF issuers.

Hashdex's DEFI Bitcoin ETF was liquidated on August 17, marking the first U.S. spot Bitcoin ETF to be shut down. This occurred despite charging a competitive fee, indicating challenges in maintaining sufficient assets under management.
