Strategy, a company holding a significant amount of Bitcoin, has returned to profitability on its holdings due to a recent rally in the cryptocurrency's price. The company now holds approximately 840,447 BTC, valued at around $64.97 billion, resulting in an unrealized gain of about $1.4 billion. This marks a substantial turnaround from July, when the same holdings were underwater by roughly $13 billion due to market pressures.
In a shift from its previous strategy, Strategy has begun selling portions of its Bitcoin reserves since May, raising capital for share repurchases and other corporate needs. The company sold 6,948 BTC for $432.5 million and later raised an additional $334 million through MSTR share sales. These funds were used for preferred dividends, stock buybacks, and to bolster its dollar reserve, which now stands at $4.8 billion.
The recent surge in Bitcoin's price, nearly 23% over five consecutive days, has been a key factor in Strategy's improved financial position. This rally has been partly influenced by political developments, including President Donald Trump's call for Congress to advance the Clarity Act, a bill aimed at establishing a federal framework for digital assets. Following this, CFTC Chair Michael S. Selig indicated that the commission would prepare crypto market structure rules if legislative progress stalls.
