Albania has introduced strict new measures, including fines of up to $6,130, for demonstrators who remain present at violent protests, regardless of their personal involvement in the violence. The government, led by Prime Minister Edi Rama, aims to curb months of anti-government demonstrations that have recently escalated into clashes with security forces. The new legislation, which requires parliamentary approval within 45 days, also grants police enhanced powers to restrict gatherings and penalizes online incitement to violence. Rama stated the measures were inspired by similar French legislation.
