FRANKFURT, Nov 6 (Reuters) - German industrial production unexpectedly rose in September by 0.7% from the previous month, driven by a seasonal upswing in the car industry, the federal statistics office said on Friday.
Analysts polled by Reuters had forecast stagnation.
The upside surprise was tempered by a downward revision for August to a month-on-month gain of 1% from an initial read-out of 2%.
Compared with the year-earlier month, the September gain in industrial output was 0.4%.
"All in all, industrial production continues to move sideways at a low level," said Joerg Kraemer, chief economist at Commerzbank.
