Portugal's Alentejo region, long celebrated for its natural beauty and relaxed lifestyle, is rapidly becoming a prime destination for luxury hotel developments. From the coastal areas of Comporta and Melides to the historic city of Évora, a wave of new openings, relaunches, and boutique stays are enhancing the region's appeal as an exclusive European travel hotspot.
José Manuel Santos, President of the Alentejo and Ribatejo Regional Tourism Board, highlighted that these luxury hotels are reinforcing Alentejo's status as an authentic and forward-looking destination. This surge in high-end accommodations aims to position Alentejo as a sophisticated alternative to Portugal's more crowded tourist centers.
Notable new developments include Sublime Comporta Villas in Comporta, which relaunched with 43 new private villas, private pools, and new dining options like Beefbar and Davvero Comporta. In Melides, Quinta Amala has opened, offering seven independent wooden cabins, a six-bedroom villa, and amenities such as a restaurant, heated pool, sauna, and yoga spaces, accommodating up to 40 guests.
Looking ahead, Ando Living Comporta House, featuring 16 contemporary villas with private pools and panoramic views, is scheduled to open in July 2026. Renowned designer Christian Louboutin is set to open Vermelho Lagoa in Melides by the end of the year, promising a luxurious experience with a spa and infinity pool. Torre Vã, a five-star rural hotel, is expected to open in Ourique in October, focusing on nature and rural experiences.
The year 2027 is anticipated to be significant, with Évora designated as a European Capital of Culture. The city will welcome Hotel Santo André Évora and the boutique Entre Hotel. Further afield, the Dom Nuno hotel will open in Monsaraz in June 2027, and Comporta will see the launch of NUMA Comporta and Na Praia.
