Palantir Technologies CEO Alex Karp has acquired a vast 3,720-acre ranch near Aspen, Colorado, for $120 million. The property, previously St. Benedict's Monastery, was on the market for $150 million before Karp finalized the purchase in 2025. The monastery, established by the Cistercian Order of the Strict Observance in 1956, included a chapel, living quarters, and a retreat center, and had historically supported itself through cattle ranching and other ventures.
The ranch has also served as a venue for interfaith retreats and events hosted by the Aspen Institute. The sale comes as part of a trend of billionaires acquiring large landholdings for private residences. Snowmass county's land-use regulations impose a 5,750-square-foot limit on home floor area, restricting the size of any potential new construction on the ranch. The area is known for high-value real estate transactions, including a recent record-setting $108 million sale to an LLC backed by financier Thomas Peterffy and developer Steve Wynn.
Broker Ken Mirr, who handled the listing, emphasized the unique nature of the property and the search for a buyer interested in conservation. Karp, who recently relocated Palantir's headquarters to Miami, plans to use the Colorado ranch as a personal residence.
