The International Monetary Fund (IMF) announced that its staff will visit Senegal from August 19 to September 1 to continue discussions on policies and reforms that could support a new lending arrangement. This visit follows a prior trip in June, during which "open and constructive technical discussions" were held regarding Senegal's request for a new program.
Senegal and the IMF have been working to address a debt misreporting issue that came to light in 2024. This problem led the IMF to freeze its previous $1.8 billion lending program. Consequently, Senegal has had limited access to international capital markets and has relied on regional borrowing.
