Soldiers from Ukraine's 425th Separate Assault Regiment "Skelia" are being transferred to approximately 10 other military formations due to allegations of abuse and misconduct. Ukrainska Pravda reported the reassignment order, citing sources within the regiment and Ukraine's Defense Forces.

The Skelia regiment is one of Ukraine's largest assault units, with over 10,000 personnel. It experienced rapid expansion, reportedly receiving a disproportionate number of new recruits while other brigades faced shortages. An internal source suggested the restructuring was due to the regiment being "artificially inflated" with low command quality.

These transfers occur amid broader scrutiny of Ukraine's assault formations. On July 31, Commander-in-Chief Mykhailo Drapatyi ordered ground forces' assault regiments to cease accepting new personnel as of July 26, following misconduct allegations. The Skelia regiment has become a focal point for controversy, with an investigation documenting at least 26 non-combat deaths among its recruits between late 2025 and spring 2026, alongside claims of abuse and denial of medical care.

In response to the allegations, Regiment Commander Lieutenant Colonel Yurii Harkavyi has been suspended pending an investigation into alleged violations of soldiers' rights. Two Skelia servicemen were charged in July with torturing fellow soldiers. The General Staff also announced on July 29 that it had initiated a review of military unit staffing and the fairness of personnel distribution across the Armed Forces.
