Mohammad Asim Bashir, 31, has pleaded guilty to a terrorism offence in the UK. He admitted to assisting Jihad Al-Shamie, 35, who later carried out an attack at the Heaton Park Hebrew Congregation Synagogue in Manchester. Bashir's role involved driving Al-Shamie to the UK Defence Academy in Oxfordshire for reconnaissance in August 2025. Less than two months later, Al-Shamie drove a car into pedestrians before attacking people with a knife at the synagogue. One man died from stab wounds and another was accidentally shot dead by police. Al-Shamie told police he was acting for Islamic State before officers shot him dead. Police stated that Bashir's offence was not directly linked to the synagogue attack itself.
