The Palau-flagged tanker Settebello suffered a missile strike in its engine room off the coast of Oman, resulting in a fire, one fatality, and two missing crew members. The incident occurred near the Strait of Hormuz amid ongoing rival blockades by Iran and the U.S.

The incident escalates tensions in the Strait of Hormuz, a critical global oil and gas transit route, potentially impacting shipping security and energy prices.
The Palau-flagged tanker Settebello transmitted a distress call reporting a missile strike on its engine room off Sohar in the Gulf of Oman, leading to a fire and the death of one crew member, with two others missing. The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) agency confirmed the incident occurred approximately 20 nautical miles northeast of Sohar. British maritime security company Vanguard Tech initially reported the strike. This attack is the latest in a series of incidents involving commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz, which has been subject to rival blockades by Iran and the U.S. The U.S. Central Command has previously conducted similar missile strikes in the region.
