Prime Minister Keir Starmer announced fresh energy sanctions on Russia and a two-year deal to supply Ukraine’s nuclear plants with enriched uranium during the G7 summit in France. The new sanctions are expected to target Russia’s shadow fleet, its financial networks used to circumvent sanctions, and vessels involved in moving sanctioned liquefied natural gas. The energy support package, utilizing £210 million of UK Export Finance, will see Urenco, a multinational uranium enrichment company, supply Ukraine's state nuclear producer, Energoatom. Starmer stated that Russia's aggression threatens European security and that the UK is acting to cut off revenue fueling the war and to power Ukraine through upcoming winters. The G7 summit's initial session was dedicated to building peace and security for Ukraine and Europe.
