The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported on July 21 that Russia has sustained approximately 1,431,900 troops since the full-scale invasion commenced on February 24, 2022. This figure includes 1,370 personnel losses recorded over the preceding day.
In addition to personnel casualties, the report detailed extensive Russian equipment losses, including 12,161 tanks, 24,978 armored combat vehicles, 46,435 artillery systems, 438 aircraft, and 354 helicopters. Significant losses were also reported for multiple launch rocket systems, air defense systems, drones, ships, and special equipment.
Ukraine's General Staff has withheld its own casualty figures, citing operational secrecy. However, independent Western think-tank reports, such as one from the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) in January 2026, suggest that Russian casualties significantly outweigh Ukraine's. CSIS estimated Ukraine's casualties between February 2022 and December 2025 to be between 500,000 and 600,000, with 100,000 to 140,000 killed in action. The think tank also estimated the casualty ratio to be roughly 2.5:1 or 2:1 in favor of Ukraine.
