Chinese defense scientists have outlined a strategy to destroy US carrier groups from approximately 3,000 kilometers away, a distance that aligns with the range from Shanghai to Guam. This research, published in the journal Tactical Missile Technology, comes as the US military repositions its assets further from Asian coastlines. The paper, led by associate professor Gao Tianyun, details a step-by-step guide for anti-ship missile swarm operations in a distributed confrontation scenario.
In a separate scientific discovery, Chinese researchers have identified what is believed to be the world's largest whale graveyard at the bottom of the Indian Ocean. The extensive site, spanning 1,200 kilometers and reaching depths of up to 7,000 meters, contains nearly 500 skeletons, with some fossils dating back 5.3 million years. The discovery, revealed in the journal Nature, also highlighted the presence of unique deep-sea ecosystems thriving on the carcasses, including species potentially new to science. Researchers also identified an extinct species of whale, Pterocetus benguelae, and a new species named Pterocetus diamantinae.
