The initial blast struck a vehicle, while a second device exploded as rescuers arrived at the scene.
No group has immediately claimed responsibility for the attacks. However, suspicion is likely to fall on the Pakistani Taliban, also known as Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), which has been linked to similar incidents in the region. The TTP is separate from, but allied with, Afghanistan's Taliban.
President Asif Ali Zardari condemned the bombings, offering condolences to the victims' families and praying for the recovery of the wounded. He issued a warning against "internal and external handlers of terrorism" who provide support to militant networks. Pakistani officials have previously stated that many TTP leaders and fighters find sanctuary in Afghanistan.
A search operation is underway to apprehend those responsible for the attacks.
