Organizer of Kyiv exhibition where 11 died remanded in custody

The organizer of an exhibition that was struck by a Russian ballistic missile, resulting in 11 deaths and around 100 injuries, has been remanded in custody. Vasyl Honcharuk, head of the Armada association, appeared in a Kyiv court on July 27 charged with culpable negligence. He was ordered to be held for 60 days without the possibility of bail.

The attack occurred on July 24 at an event attended by members of the Ukrainian defense industry, located just outside Kyiv. The incident has prompted investigations into how Russia obtained the information to target the public event, which was held at a private sports complex.

Prosecutor General Ruslan Kravchenko stated that his office initiated two criminal investigations, one concerning a potential violation of the laws and customs of war, and another related to possible negligence in the organization and execution of the event. A spokesperson for the Ukrainian Council of Defense Industry noted that no details about the event or its location were publicly available before the attack, with invitations shared through closed industry channels and only appearing online afterward. The spokesperson clarified that while the council was not the organizer, neither the invitation nor the registration link disclosed the venue.
