China's North Industries Group Corporation (Norinco), a major state-run defence contractor, has indicated potential plans for overseas drone production by displaying a model of an assembly line at the Eurosatory defence exhibition in Paris. The exhibit featured various drone models, including the BZK-005E reconnaissance aircraft, the CY-8 cargo drone, and the Z-6B unmanned helicopter. The display illustrated the manufacturing process, from parts and components to final assembly and testing, and also included information on the explosives and propellants used in the drones. A banner at Norinco's booth proclaimed "Norinco defence localisation," suggesting a strategic shift towards producing defence equipment outside of China, potentially to cater to international buyers, including those in the Middle East.
Amid soaring demand for air defence solutions fueled by conflicts like the one in Ukraine, Norinco also showcased its advanced anti-drone capabilities. This included medium-range GAS9 (Sky Dragon 100) and shorter-range GAS8 (Yitian II) surface-to-air missile systems, designed to provide a multilayered defense network. Additionally, the SA2/LD76 system was presented as a high-mobility anti-aircraft gun system capable of countering modern asymmetric threats such as drone swarms, cruise missiles, and precision-guided munitions.
