Myanmar's junta chief and president, Min Aung Hlaing, has traveled to Russia for an official visit, seeking international legitimacy amid Western sanctions. This marks his first official trip to Russia since assuming the presidency in April, and his fifth foreign visit as leader.
Min Aung Hlaing has made multiple visits to Russia as junta chief, including meetings with President Vladimir Putin where agreements were signed for a small-scale nuclear power plant and investment in the Dawei Special Economic Zone. The current trip includes a business forum aimed at strengthening economic ties, particularly for Russian energy companies.
Defense cooperation between the two nations has also grown, with Russia providing military training and arms to Myanmar. Russia has also offered to help train Myanmar's first cosmonaut.
