Iranian officials travel to Oman for Strait of Hormuz talks

This visit by Iranian officials to Oman follows their recent discussions with the United States in Switzerland. During those talks, regional security, maritime transit, and Iran's engagement with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) were reportedly discussed. Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei stated that Iran's cooperation with the IAEA would continue according to existing procedures and parliamentary legislation, denying any new commitments were made regarding nuclear issues.

Conversely, US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent indicated on X that Iran had committed to facilitating free and open transit through the Strait of Hormuz and permitting IAEA inspectors access, as part of the framework discussed in Switzerland. Bessent also noted that the US Treasury Department had issued a temporary 60-day general license authorizing Iranian oil production, delivery, and sales. Statements from both Tehran and Washington suggested differing interpretations of the Switzerland discussions, with US officials highlighting commitments on Hormuz and IAEA access, while Iran emphasized adherence to current procedures for its nuclear-related engagement.
