Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) claimed responsibility for an attack on a US special operations command center at al-Tanf in Syria, stating it was in retaliation for the killing of Iranian soldiers in Iranshahr. A Syrian military source confirmed an attack occurred near al-Tanf but not on the base itself, reporting no casualties or material damage.
This incident marks the first reported Iranian attack on Syria since the US-Israeli war on Iran began in late February. The US military had previously stated it withdrew from al-Tanf in March. Syria has sought to remain neutral in the conflict.
Following the attack on Iranshahr, US forces conducted further strikes on Iranshahr airport, wounding at least one civilian and damaging facilities. Iranian state media also reported US attacks on bridges in the south of the country that killed at least seven civilians, with several bridges damaged. Explosions were also heard in Chabahar, and a strike in Bandar Abbas killed one person and injured eight.
Despite the escalating tensions, White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt indicated that President Donald Trump was open to diplomacy. Iran's health ministry reported that at least 38 people have been killed and over 400 wounded in the country since the US resumed attacks on June 22.
Drone and missile attacks were also reported in other regional countries. Kuwaiti air defences responded to Iranian attacks, while Bahrain's interior ministry reported sirens. Qatar announced it intercepted a missile attack, with one child wounded. The IRGC also claimed to have targeted a US radar in Oman. Jordan intercepted three Iranian missiles, and the US-led coalition shot down drones over Erbil, Iraq.
