Rail service between Iran's capital Tehran and the northeastern city of Mashhad has been restored after being suspended due to US-Israeli strikes on infrastructure. The suspension followed attacks that damaged railway bridges, a highway, and power lines in several locations across Iran.
State media reported that at least two people were killed and three others wounded in a strike on a railway bridge in Kashan. The Islamic Republic of Iran Railways attributed the disruption to a "criminal attack by the US-Israeli enemy" and dispatched repair teams. Road transport was arranged for stranded passengers.
The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps accused Washington of targeting bridges in eastern provinces in an effort to "overshadow" the burial of late Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, whose body was expected to be interred in Mashhad. Israeli military radio reported that Israel struck around 10 railway segments and bridges in Iran.
Reports also indicated damage to a highway connecting Tabriz with Tehran and power infrastructure in Karaj and Fardis. US President Donald Trump had previously threatened to target Iranian infrastructure.
