Iran's top military command, including the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters, has announced the closure of the Strait of Hormuz to all vessel traffic. The command cited alleged violations of a ceasefire agreement by the U.S. and Israel, specifically referencing Israel's attacks on southern Lebanon, as the reason for this action. The closure is described as the 'first step' in response to these alleged breaches, with Iran warning of further measures if aggression persists. The IRGC also issued a warning to vessels not to approach the Strait of Hormuz, stating their security would be at risk.
However, U.S. Vice President JD Vance stated that there is no evidence of Tehran closing the Strait of Hormuz and that talks with Iran were progressing well. Peace talks between the U.S. and Iran are scheduled to continue in Switzerland.
