Four individuals have died from suspected asphyxiation while engaged in mining activities within an unauthorized 40-foot-deep mine in the Ramgarh district of Jharkhand. The incident took place on Saturday on forest land near Argada, falling under the Ramgarh police station's jurisdiction.
According to Naveen Prakash Pandey, the Ramgarh police station in-charge, preliminary investigations suggest the deaths were caused by oxygen deficiency inside the mine. The bodies of the deceased—identified as Deva Bediya (30) and Dablu Bediya (36) from Hazaribag district, and Kishore Ravani (33) and Ashish Kumar Natwar from Ramgarh district—were recovered and have been sent for postmortem examination.
Satyajit Kumar, General Manager of Central Coalfields Limited's (CCL) Argada area, clarified that the site of the incident is located outside the command area of CCL. He stated that the villagers had entered the unauthorized mine, which was approximately 40 feet deep, and subsequently fainted due to reported oxygen deficiency. They were transported to a hospital in Ramgarh, where they were declared deceased upon arrival.
