British Kashmiris Protest UK Parliament Over PoJK Crackdown

Speakers at the rally stated that residents of PoJK have been protesting for basic rights, including economic relief, affordable electricity, improved governance, and the fulfillment of official commitments. They alleged that security forces responded to peaceful demonstrations with excessive force, leading to civilian casualties and injuries. Participants condemned what they described as a violent crackdown by Pakistani Rangers and security agencies on demonstrators in various parts of PoJK.

According to organizers, the protest aimed to draw global attention to the grievances of the people of PoJK and to urge international bodies to ensure the protection of fundamental rights. Protesters also alleged that Pakistani security forces opened direct fire on a sit-in at Rawalakot Eidgah on Sunday, resulting in the deaths of two civilians and injuries to more than a dozen others.

The demonstration outside the UK Parliament remained peaceful, with participants reiterating calls for dialogue, accountability, and the safeguarding of human rights in the region. This protest follows widespread demonstrations in PoJK over issues such as governance, economic hardship, allocation of legislative seats, soaring inflation, high electricity bills, and scarcity of essential commodities. Reports suggest the Pakistani administration deployed paramilitary forces to quell dissent, leading to violent clashes and casualties.
