Ten people were killed and 10 others injured after an 11-year-old boy drove a pickup truck into a Buddhist procession in northeastern Thailand. CCTV footage captured the moment the vehicle crashed into a group of monks and worshippers during a religious procession in Mukdahan province on July 2. Local hospital officials confirmed the fatalities and injuries, with two of the injured remaining in critical condition.
A group of 35 monks and five lay followers were walking along a roadside during a pilgrimage when the truck plowed into them. Police stated the driver was an 11-year-old who had taken his parents' vehicle without permission. Prayut Ruanthongkam, chief of Mukdahan City Police, told AFP that the boy was unable to give a statement and has been referred to child welfare authorities for assessment, accompanied by his mother. In Thailand, children under the age of 12 are not held criminally liable.
