Retired Air Force Lt. Col. David Flippo has won the Republican primary in Nevada’s 2nd Congressional District, securing President Donald Trump’s endorsement in the final weeks of the campaign. Flippo campaigned as a hardliner on immigration and transgender issues, and he slammed his opponent, former state Sen. James Settelmeyer, as a “woke liberal” in ads. Settelmeyer's opponents took issue with Flippo, a longtime Las Vegas resident who only recently purchased property in Reno, attempting to run the state’s lone safely Republican district. Retiring Rep. Mark Amodei even stated Trump “made a mistake” in his endorsement. Flippo prevailed, riding support from Trump and Turning Point Action, and will enter November’s election as the heavy favorite in a district Trump won by 14 points in 2024. In other Nevada primary results, Teresa Benitez-Thompson won the Democratic nomination for a House seat. Sam Brown, also endorsed by Donald Trump, won the Republican primary for Nevada's 3rd Congressional District, a swing seat where incumbent Democrat Susie Lee also won her primary.
