Marion County Prosecutor Ryan Mears announced that his team has filed a petition to have a 14-year-old suspect charged as an adult in the murder of 23-year-old Brett Scrogham. Scrogham, a graduate of the Indiana University Kelley School of Business, was shot and killed on May 28 in downtown Indianapolis while on his way to a baseball game. The suspect, who has not been named, faces charges of felony murder, armed robbery, and dangerous possession of a firearm. Investigators believe the shooting occurred inside Scrogham's car in a parking garage. The suspect was arrested on Wednesday. IMPD Chief Tanya Terry acknowledged the arrest but expressed sorrow for the victim and the suspect's future. A judge will ultimately decide whether the minor will be tried in juvenile or adult court, a process Mears stated is protocol for the state of Indiana in such cases.
