Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh has reiterated the state government's strong commitment to eradicating drug trafficking and substance abuse, aiming to build a drug-free Manipur. This commitment was emphasized during a meeting of the Narco-Coordination Centre (NCORD) held at the Civil Secretariat.
During the meeting, Singh reviewed ongoing measures to combat drug trafficking, focusing on strengthening intelligence sharing, enhancing inter-agency coordination, and intensifying enforcement actions against drug networks operating within and around the state. He also noted that the Ministry of Home Affairs has completed the fencing of 50 kilometers of the India-Myanmar border, a measure aimed at curbing illegal arms and drug smuggling. Construction has commenced on an additional 80-kilometer stretch of this border fence.
The Chief Minister was joined by key officials, including Home Minister Konthoujam Govindas Singh, Director General of Police (DGP) Mukesh Singh, Chief Security Advisor to the Manipur government Kuldiep Singh, and senior representatives from the Assam Rifles, Border Security Force (BSF), and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF). Singh affirmed that the state government will continue to collaborate closely with central agencies and security forces to bolster anti-drug operations and maintain Manipur's leading role in the fight against narcotics trafficking in the region.
