Indian Institute of Management Calcutta (IIM-Calcutta) has introduced a new policy allowing its MBA students to pursue entrepreneurial ventures for one year without losing their eligibility for campus placements. This initiative, announced by Institute Director Alok Kumar Rai, aims to support students interested in startups.
Students who choose to dedicate a year to building their businesses will be permitted to re-enter the institute's placement process the following year if they wish. The announcement was made during the induction ceremony for the 63rd MBA batch, which comprises 480 students.
The new batch includes 67% men and 33% women, with 41% being freshers and 59% having prior work experience. Engineering graduates form the largest segment at 54.7%, followed by commerce, science, and arts students.
The ceremony also featured Ganesh Mohan, Managing Director of Bajaj Finserv Asset Management, as the chief guest. Additionally, Pranav Adani, Managing Director of Adani Enterprises, announced the continuation of the Adani Accelerated Leadership Programme, which provides full-fee scholarships annually to six meritorious MBA students for the next two years. An MoU was signed between IIM-Calcutta and the Adani Group, and the group also donated 200 bicycles to enhance student mobility on campus.
