An internal report by Doctors Without Borders (MSF) has uncovered a pattern of abuse and sexual exploitation by some of its staff in Chad, according to a confidential memo obtained by The Associated Press. The report, completed in July, detailed 59 allegations, resulting in the dismissal of 18 staff members and their barring from future employment with the organization.
The findings, which emerged from an investigation launched in response to previous AP reporting, indicate that the abuse was more widespread than initially understood. The allegations included instances where staff allegedly traded food, jobs, or other assistance for sex with refugees, some of whom were underage girls. The report also noted that some repeated exploitation suggested potentially organized "sexual trafficking."
