Turkic states eye deeper economic integration, digital cooperation

Discussions centered on transitioning from theoretical debates to practical implementation of competition law and fostering cross-border enforcement. Officials highlighted the growing strategic importance of the region, particularly its role along the Middle Corridor, a key trade route linking China, Central Asia, the South Caucasus, and Europe. Azerbaijan, in particular, seeks to leverage this to strengthen its position as an energy supplier and transit hub.

Key themes included developing joint investment initiatives, facilitating trade, improving infrastructure for economic resilience, and advancing digital infrastructure, skills, and innovation ecosystems. The growing emphasis on technology, especially Artificial Intelligence (AI), was noted, with leaders at a previous OTS summit designating AI and digital development as strategic priorities for the future of the Turkic world. Plans are underway to develop a dedicated action plan by the end of the year.

While historical and linguistic ties bind the member states, challenges remain in translating ambitions into practical outcomes due to differing economic realities, regulatory frameworks, and geopolitical pressures.
