Three individuals were arrested on Friday by Greece's counter-terrorism police in connection with a series of firebomb attacks targeting homes linked to the ruling New Democracy party. The attacks, which occurred earlier this month in Thessaloniki, involved assailants leaving ignited gas canisters outside buildings.
One of the firebombings resulted in the death of a 72-year-old woman, who succumbed to her burns, and injured four other people. Two earlier attacks caused only material damage, while the third, linked to the arrested suspects, injured five people before the fatality.
The targeted properties included apartments occupied by figures associated with the ruling party, as well as a property owned by a local politician from New Democracy. Greece has a history of such attacks, though they have more recently resulted in property damage rather than casualties.
