The Netherlands' national railway company, NS, has launched a summer subscription called NS Flex Dal Vrij, allowing unlimited train travel across the country for €49 per month. The offer is valid for up to two months and applies to off-peak hours, weekends, and public holidays.

This initiative significantly lowers the cost of intercity travel in the Netherlands, making it a more accessible and attractive destination for tourists and residents looking to explore the country affordably during the summer months.
The Netherlands is making it easier and more affordable for tourists and residents to explore the country by train this summer with a new subscription offer. Nederlandse Spoorwegen (NS), the national railway company, in collaboration with the government, has launched the NS Flex Dal Vrij scheme, allowing unlimited travel across the country for €49 per month.
The subscription is available for up to two months and is valid during off-peak hours on weekdays (9:00 am to 4:00 pm and 6:30 pm to 6:30 am) and throughout weekends from Friday evening to Monday morning. This initiative aligns with the growing trend of slow travel, encouraging visitors to spend more time in destinations and immerse themselves in local culture.
Normally, a month of unlimited travel would cost €127.95. The NS Flex Dal Vrij pass covers travel on all trains operated by the Dutch rail carrier, excluding Eurostar. The country's rail network connects approximately 400 stations, including historic ones like Haarlem Central and Leiden, and modern hubs like Amsterdam and Utrecht, which offer amenities such as USB chargers and Wi-Fi.
Beyond the train, passengers can use their subscription to connect to buses, trams, and metros at standard fares, and explore destinations like Groningen, Middelburg, Maastricht, and Den Helder. The article also highlights specific train stations worth visiting, such as Groningen Central, known for its artistic tile panels, and Rotterdam Blaak, a multimodal transport hub with a striking transparent dome.
Other European countries are also offering value rail fares. Germany's Deutsche Bahn has deals as low as €6.99 for last-minute bookings, while Spain's Renfe offers a Spain Rail Pass for non-residents. The UK's BritRail Great Britain Pass provides flexible travel options across England, Scotland, and Wales.
