Luis García Jr. broke a fifth-inning tie with a two-run homer, and CJ Abrams added three hits and two RBIs to lead the Washington Nationals to an 8-3 victory over the Seattle Mariners on Saturday. The Nationals improved their home record to 13-21 with the win.
With the score tied at 3 in the fifth, García hit a 408-foot homer off Luis Castillo. Abrams helped expand the lead in the seventh with an RBI single, and later scored on a wild pickoff attempt by reliever Eduard Bazardo. Washington added another run on José Tena's single.
Nationals starter Cade Cavalli (4-4) allowed three runs and struck out five in five innings. The Nationals scored three unearned runs in the first against Castillo (2-6), with García reaching on an error and scoring on Abrams' single, followed by a triple from Daylen Lile and an RBI single from Dylan Crews.
Colt Emerson homered for the Mariners in the fifth, his second consecutive game with a home run. Mitch Garver also contributed an RBI single in the fifth for Seattle.
